Inside the Iggles is campaigning for James Hardy in the 1st round and Chris Johnson in the 2nd round.
I’m going to jump onto the James Hardy bandwagon. At 6’6″, he is just what the Eagles need to solve their offensive red-zone woes. James Hardy is scheduled to visit the Eagles on April 7th [Yardbarker]. They also interviewed him at the combine, so they are very serious about drafting him with their 19th pick.
Just as long as it isn’t Malcolm Kelly. [Yardbarker]
Devin Thomas’ stock is rising. Check out his profile. He’s another option the Eagles could consider.
It’s the same old story for about the 8th time. The Sixers beat a team that everyone gave them no shot to beat: ask the Mavericks, Suns, Pistons, Spurs, and Nuggets how it feels.
The Sixers beat the Celtics in Boston 95-90. The Sixers outscored the Celtics 29-19 in the 4th quarter and even went on a 19-0 run — Iguodala scoring 10 straight points during that run. He finished with 28/4/4.
The win makes the Sixers 10-2 in the month of March and 18-5 in their last 23 games. This win also marks the first time the Sixers have been above .500 all season long. The Sixers have now overtaken the 6th seed in the East with a 0.5-game lead on the Raptors.
Add another impressive win to the list. It seems like the 76ers are taking out every elite playoff team that comes their way: the Mavericks, the Magic, the Suns, the Pistons, and now, the defending world champion San Antonio Spurs. After having the 3rd worst attendance in the league throughout the season, the Sixers are sending a message to the fans: we are an exciting team to watch and we most certainly do not suck (anymore). Over 19,000 fans were in attendance last night. Sammy D dominated Tim Duncan: he had 2 blocks on the big fella and held him to 16 points (5/14 FG). Mo Cheeks is very deserving of Coach of the Year for what he’s been able to do with this young squad. The MVP this game: Andre Miller (32 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds). Sixers win 103-96. A.I. returns to the Wachovia Center Wednesday when the 76ers return to action to face the Nuggets.
It seems that in every single game the 76ers have played lately, they find a way to shock you. Things started going their way just a little over a month ago against Dallas — a win nobody saw coming. Considering the team was 4-11 in the month of January, nobody expected them to go 14-4 in their last 18 games. After the Mavericks win, the Sixers won games against the Magic; the Suns, a team they haven’t been able to beat since 2002 (on the road to boot); and then the Pistons — also on the road. When they were down 86-70 at the end of the 3rd quarter against the Bulls last night, I wrote them off: there’s no way they’ll be able to overcome a 16-point deficit going into the 4th quarter on the road. Well, they were able to, and the Sixers won 110-106.
The hero this game was Rodney Carney again, a player who has been disrespected by Sixers fans a lot throughout the season. Rodney Carney has been incredible in the last two games. His 16-point game (7/10 FG) against the Pistons was the offensive effort that contributed the most to the win in Detroit. Tonight, Carney went off in the 4th quarter: he was the main reason the 76ers were able to erase an 18-point deficit. 12 of Carney’s 18 points came in the 4th quarter; 6 of them off 3-balls in the final minutes of the game.
I nominate Rodney Carney: NBA Player of the Week.
6th-Seed Race Update: Those pesky Wizards keep winning. They’re 7-3 in their last 10 and coming off a win against the Cavaliers. The Sixers remain 1.5 games behind the Wizards. The Wizard’s next 5 games: LAC, ATL, ORL, MIA, DET. The Sixers next 5 games: SA, DEN, ORL, NJ, BOS.
Flyers Update: The Flyers continue to be less than average: 5-3-2 in their last 10; 2-4 in their last 6. They really dropped the ball with 2-straight losses against the Maple Leafs, but they were still able to hang onto the 8th seed in the East. They’re currently up by 2 points on the Sabres.
Iguodala is making a strong case to get paid well this summer: he is putting up impressive numbers night in and night out and is leading a young team to the playoffs, and possibly, a 6th seed. The 76ers are currently trailing the Wizards by 1.5 games. I’m sure some asshole GM is going to throw the bank at him to try lure him to another town, but at least the 76ers reserve the right to match any deal that would go Iguodala’s way. On the season, Iguodala is averaging 19.6 PPG, 5.5 RPG, and 4.6 APG. Just last week Iguodala put up 32 points against the Suns, check out this 15/23 FG performance:
The Sixers have just beaten the Pistons — in Detroit. The Sixers are now 13-4 in their last 17 games. I never thought that would have happened a month ago. Sammy-D and Reggie cleaned up the boards. Carney had a hell of an offensive game: 16 points (7/10 FG). He almost cost the team a W at the end with an incidental foul on Chauncey Billups: instead of forcing the Pistons to shoot when they were down 83-80, Billups got 2 free points at the line. It wasn’t necessarily a bone-head move by Carney, and it could have gone the other way, but there was contact nonetheless. Iguodala took the last shot with the Sixers up by 1, but fell short. The Pistons had the last shot and come up short. Sixers win 83-82.
Iguodala’s line: 22 points, 2 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, 1 block. 6/22 FG but 9/12 at the line.
Awesome win. It would have looked better in these uniforms.
5.) We have the right coach – This point alone deserves its own post. Maurice Cheeks has done a few things that are worth reiterating here. He has proven he can get the most out of marginal talent. He has proven he can develop young players. He has proven he can put this team in a position to win every night. Most importantly, he has proven he can motivate his players to compete every night. They haven’t had many let downs against weak teams the last two months, and they have gotten up when they have beaten good teams.
It was great seeing the Sixers rock the retro 1983 jerseys once again last night against the Celtics. I would love to see these jerseys more often and I think it’s absolutely ridiculous that the 76er’s marketing department isn’t even selling 1983 Retro Andre Iguodala jerseys. Personally, I would love to get my hands on a Louis Williams retro jersey, but no luck. You can’t even get a personalized retro jersey on NBA.com’s store. Some places carry the retro jerseys, but you’re limited to Julius Erving, Maurice Cheeks, Moses Malone, and Bobby Jones; if you opt for one of those, it will cost you something in the range of $250.
I urge all of you to sign the petition to bring back the retro uniforms at Sixers 4 Guidos. The 90s look is getting old and fading away; it’s time to go retro! We already saw the Pistons do it and look what happened to their franchise. To help get my point across, I’m changing the 76ers logo on my articles to the old Sixers logo. I want to see these jerseys from now on:
With all of my attention turned towards the Eagles recently, the Sixers have gotten lost in the mix. They do, however, deserve some recognition for what they’ve been able to do over the last month. The Philadelphia 76ers have won 7 straight games at home and have also won their last 10 of 13 games, including impressive wins over the Magic, the Mavericks, and the Suns, a team they haven’t been able to beat since 2002.
At the beginning of the season, the 76ers weren’t even suppose to make the playoffs, now they’re competing for the 6th seed in the East (they’re currently trailing Washington by a 1/2 game and Caron Butler is out indefinitely). We all know the Sixers would get killed by the Pistons or Celtics, but they have a chance to compete with the Magic in the playoffs. The Recliner GM weighs in and explains why. I’ll also have to agree with Sixers 4 Guidos, we owe an apology to a few people.
Also, if you’re looking for a thesis on the state of the 76ers, Empty the Bench has a lengthy article that talks about pretty much everything you’ll ever need to know about the Sixers current team.
