Let’s see what’s going on in Eagles Nation. First you have McNabb saying that before he even considers a new deal, he’ll have to see what the Eagles do to improve the team through free agency, which begins this Friday at midnight, and the draft.
Stay tuned for Eagles to sign Brian Dawkins and Tra Thomas soon. The Eagles also locked up Joselio Hanson for 5-years, $21 million. Great move! The secondary is set and Lito Sheppard is now expendable for whatever we can get for the guy, 3rd-round pick perhaps? I’m sure the Lions or Chiefs will want/need him.
The news from the Combine: Wake Forest LB Aaron Curry whooed the hell out of scouts with his workout and he may go as high as #3 to the Chiefs; Andre Smith, the highly coveted Alabama OT, who was set to be a top-10 lock, had a mental/physical meltdown and left the combine without telling anyone, thus killing his stock and his paycheck dramatically; there’s an impressive list of 40 times from WRs, so the Eagles have some solid options outside the first round, and the RBs (notably Beanie Wells and even Knowshon Moreno) posted poor 40 times.
But the big buzz lately is Marvin Harrison. The Colts cut Marvin Harrison and Harrison will be a free agent. Yes, he’s 36 and his production has declined after his knee injury, but a return to his hometown with his college quarterback is the feel-good story floating around and the Eagles need another WR to make McNabb happy. He’s a cheaper option that Houshmandzadeh, so this may work out quite well. Here’s some supplemental reading on Marvin Harrison/Eagles talk:

I think the Eagles still have to go after T.J. Houshmandzadeh, and go after him hard. Its definitely a feel good story with Harrison joining McNabb like the days at Syracuse, and the fact that he resides in Philly. Nothing against Jackson, he had a phenomenal year, but we can’t expect him to be a number one guy yet, even though he is capable of those type of numbers. I think he is a star in the making but I like what McNabb is doing by waiting it out and sending a message to go after playmakers. They are under the cap, and by adding a Houshmandzadeh type receiver it gives them all kinds of options. I loved Celek down the stretch, and the type of routes T.J. can run will help everywhere, including the red zone, and especially sustaining drives with Jackson and Curtis in the open field. If its Zack? who wrote this article, I just wanted to make a couple comments and tell you that I follow your site every now and again. I watched a few Eagles games with you at the Spartan Hall of Fame Cafe during the ugly part of the season. Down the stretch and into the playoffs we had a great run. I went to the game on Thanksgiving night, and I remember you mentioning you were going to the final game against Dallas. Both were statement games that’s for sure. I was planning on going down to Tampa if things went our way in Arizona. It was a tough loss to swallow. But I’m excited for the Free Agency and Draft coming up. I hope the Eagles make a move soon and as far as the draft is concerned I think we can be picky if we want. Go after a tackle, and hopefully land a runningback to compliment Westbrook and Buck, if he stays. The defense should be great for us, and again exciting to watch as they fly around. As disappointing as the loss in Arizona was, I can’t help but be excited for this upcoming year.

Eric, it’s good to hear from you. I’m glad you check out the site. I agree with everything you said. Even though Banner says he has no intentions of pursuing a receiver, I don’t see why they wouldn’t go after Housh since there’s no tackles, tight ends, or running backs in the market.
Free agency is this Friday at midnight. Last year we were treated to the Asante Samuel signing right at noon and I expect the same to happen with T.J. T.J. has proven to be an excellent target in the red zone and he’ll significantly help DeSean/Curtis/Celek get open.
In the draft, the Eagles will have to draft a tackle. I would love to take Eugene Monroe or Jason Smith, but they should go in the top 10. I don’t want to gamble on Andre Smith. Michael Oher has the size/athleticism, but is said to be a project and he only did 21 reps of 225, which sucks for a tackle.
If the Eagles stay put in the draft, I think they should target OT William Beatty and TE Brandon Pettigrew in the draft. In the second round, they could take a RB (there’s plenty to choose from).
If the Eagles get Houshmandzadeh, Pettigrew, and an OT with their first pick, I would be enthusiastic going into the 2009 season.

Can you imagine Mcnabb with TJ, Curtis, and red hot Celek??? and lets not forget about Desean Jackson who have been more than a small impact on the field. and then maybe Westbrook can have a healthy season. Sounds like a great offense to me!!!!
