How will Eagles fix their punt-returning woes?
Is a guy who can actually catch a punt too much to ask for? He doesn't even need to return punts - just catch them. The Eagles coaching staff found out the hard way just how important a reliable punt returner is. So what are their options now? There are rumors the Eagles may be brining back Reno Mahe, but Andy Reid said those rumors were not necessarily true, but he would not elaborate. Reid might also consider Westbrook to return punts, but he said does not know who will be returning punts during Monday's game against the Redskins.
Here is a line from the article that made me want to throw another beer bottle across the room, "Reid said he 'had a lot of confidence' in Reed's ability to handle punts even though he had only handled one punt in his career." The game is tied with a minute left, and you put in a guy who has one punt return in his career. The thought "hey this guy doesn't really know what he is doing, he may make a terrible mistake and cost us the game" never entered your mind? Why would you not put in Westbrook in the situation? I'm starting to think that Andy Reid maybe indulging in his sons' favorite activities (drug use).
