Eagles get dismantled by Dallas, let's take a look into their future
You know the story: the Eagles got absolutely embarrassed by the Cowboys last night, 38-17; T.O. torched the Eagles for 174 yards and 1 TD; and the Eagles now sit at 3-5. It's time already to start talking about the future of their quarterback and head coach. When is it time to take a look at Kevin Kolb and see if he's worthy of being the future of this team down the road? I'll save that argument for another day. What I'm more interested in is the 2008 NFL Draft. I've already took a peak into the mock drafts to see what kind of player the Eagles could end up with. If the NFL season ended today, the Eagles would end up with a pick between 7 and 12 depending how their strength of schedule compares to other teams with the same record.
One player that I absolutely love is DeSean Jackson, who should be projected to go right around this range. If he's still available, the Eagles should take a long, hard look at him. He's the explosive wide receiver out of Cal that is a Heisman hopeful. Oh, and the guy could also return punts, something the Eagles could definitely use. See video1, video 2, video 3, and video 4. DeSean Jackson will be a very special player in this league.
If the Eagles can't get Jackson, what do you think the Eagles will do in the draft? Those over at NFL Draft Countdown think the Eagles will go for an offensive tackle. That isn't too surprising. The Eagles love drafting linemen in the first round and Jon Runyan and William Thomas aren't getting any younger and William Justice still has a lot of work to do. Those over at NFL Draft Countdown think the Eagles may go after USC OT Sam Baker. Here is what they had to say:
Philly is always one of the toughest teams to figure out when it comes to mock drafts because they are notoriously unpredictable on Draft Day but one trend that has emerged over the years is that they tend to lean towards linemen in round one. Their starting offensive tackle duo of William Thomas and Jon Runyan aren't getting any younger and since Winston Justice's ability to play on the left side is now a big question mark it may be time to bring in some more help for the future. Sam Baker is a fine athlete and a fantastic pass blocking left tackle which is what the Iggles need.
