Latest on the Roy Williams-Reggie Brown trade rumor
Apparently, if this rumors is true, the Lions'
motivation for making this deal is because Roy Williams is in the final
year of his contract and is expected to sign elsewhere after this
season. Plus, he's coming off an injury. The Lions figured they
should at least get some value for him if he's going to end up walking
after the season anyway. This move would give Calvin Johnson the opportunity to shine at the #1 spot and Reggie Brown could be a solid #2 for the team. Then, with Shaun McDonald in the slot (943 yards, 6 TDs last season), the Lions won't be beating themselves up over the loss of Williams.
McDonald actually had a better year, statistically, than Williams: Williams had 836 yards and 5 TDs, but his season came to an end in week 13 because of an injury. Although the Eagles are definitely the winners in this trade, I can understand the Lions' reasoning behind the move.
