The Eagles have reached an agreement with legendary
Australian Rules football player Saverio Rocca, who will try out for punter
next season and probably will join the team in time for their offseason
minicamps. Rocca is known for his
booming kicks, as you can see from his highlights, and should be a fan favorite
amongst Philadelphia
fans.
Everyone assumed the worst when it came to Donovan McNabb: that his injury was behind, that his relationship with Andy Reid was on the rocks, that he was jealous of Jeff Garcia, and that he would welcome a trade. After not making any public statements for over 2 months McNabb put those rumors to rest when he spoke at his appearance on behalf of Campbell's Chunky Soup.
The Eagles have a huge advantage going into the 2007 season. First, they have 21 of their 22 starters returning next season. Second, they still have plenty of room under the cap to acquire free agents or sign the 11 free agents that are currently on the Eagles' roster. The Eagles have a young nucleus of players and their 2006 draft picks showed a lot potential.
Today McNabb will be holding a press conferance at the SuperBowl which Chunky Soup requires him to do. He will be hammered with tons of questions regarding his injury, the Eagles success despite his injury, the quarterback situation with Jeff Garcia and more. It's been reported throughout the media that Donnovan has been upset lately with some recent team events, specifically not being able to travel to New Orleans for the playoff game and Andy Reid cancelling a press conferance of his. It will be interesting what he will say today, updates will come later.
Interesting Fact: Since October 1999 the Cowboys have won 57
regular season games and 0 playoff games while the Eagles have won 80 regular
season games and 8 playoff games. In this article I'll discuss how the Eagles stability has forced Bill Parcells out of the game and into retirement.
From the beginning of preseason back in August I knew there
would be something special about Hank Baskett.
Nobody had Hank Baskett on the radar screen when
training camp opened. By season's end, the undrafted rookie proved to have the
big-time skills needed to be productive at the NFL level.
The Eagles and Saints traded punches for four quarters and in the end the
Saints prevailed with a 27-24 win in an NFC Divisional playoff game at the
Superdome. Missed opportunities and penalties, particularly
in the fourth quarter, were the difference as the Eagles' magical 2006
season came to a heartbreaking end. Here are the video clips of the game's highlights and Sheldon Brown's monsterous hit on Reggie Bush.
McNabb is apparently upset with the events that have transpired over the last few weeks. First he was upset that he wasn't allowed to travel with the team to New Orleans then he was upset that his press conference was cancelled. We will hear about his injury status and future with the Eagles since he'll be in attendance of the Super Bowl.
While Philadelphia has said they want to re-sign him to back up Donovan
McNabb again, at least three teams - Minnesota, Tampa Bay and Green Bay
(if Brett Favre retires) - appear to be interested in Garcia as a possible short-term
starter. After signing several young players to long-term extensions in
2006, Philadelphia will head into free agency less than $13 million
under the projected $109 million cap.
