Andy Reid held a press conference Monday and updated the media on Brian Westbrook's injury. Westbrook left the Pittsburgh game after he stepped on his own teammate and landed awkwardly on his other ankle. Although Westbrook limped off the field, it didn't look too serious.
During the press conference, Reid stated that there was no ligament or tendon damage. Reid stated that Westbrook's status is day-to-day. The injury is being listed as strain and Westbrook hasn't been ruled out for this Sunday night's game against the Chicago Bears. I think the Eagles play this one safe and plan for the Chicago game without Westbrook in the lineup or at the most, limit his carries that game.
Since we're on the topic of Brian Westbrook, I took an interesting quiz at Yardbarker. Name 10 runningbacks that are paid more than Brian Westbrook. There are some surprising names on the list. This might have been before Westbrook's contract was restructured, but it's still interesting. I scored an 8/10.
During an interview with Andy Reid, when asked how the DeSean Jackson matter was being handled, Reid simply replied, "I'm not going into that at all. They took care of it, he'll be fine." McNabb also commented that DeSean's attitude about the mishap was not aloof. McNabb mentioned that DeSean was clearly upset over the play and expressed his apologies to teammates.
I wonder what the Eagles players did to "take care of" DeSean. Maybe a little hazing, probably a lot of ribbing. The article from the Philadelphia Daily News mentioned that some players taped a Geico caveman picture to his locker. The Geico caveman has also been known as Trevor Laws distant cousin.
Injury Updates:
-- Reggie Brown: Probable for Sunday. He may not start, but he'll be ready to go. He fully participated in practice Wednesday.
-- Shawn Andrews: Experienced less back tightness and will be listed as Questionable.
-- Tony Hunt: Questionable (Hamstring)
-- Trevor Laws: Questionable (Quadriceps)

DeSean Jackson Happy To Have People Underestimate Him [Bears Necessity] -- Pictures DeSean Jackson's ideal stadium, which depicts where various different celebration zones are on the field such as the dancing zone, the pre-touchdown celebration zone, and the chest-thumping zone. It also suggests that DeSean Jackson will be tagged with the new nickname MeSean Jackson.
DeSean Jackson is the first player in the NFL since the Eagles' Don Looney in 1940 to open his career with consecutive 100-yard receiving games. Congratulations to the rookie and we look forward to seeing more 100-yard receiving games from you in the future.
DeSean Jackson's explanation for throwing the ball away prematurely:
Things happen. It was just one of those things. I was
just overexcited, just trying to have some fun. I'm young, but I'm kind
of mad at myself. I could have had a touchdown. I still haven't scored a touchdown, and I was excited.
Wow, what a game. 78 points. 7 lead changes. An instant classic. Cowboys 41 - Eagles 37. USC vs. Texas in the 2006 Rose Bowl for the National Championship has
always been my favorite game, but this one just topped it.
Unfortunately, the result wasn't what I had hoped for, but it was the most gratifying loss by the Eagles that I have ever witnessed.
The fact that the Eagles can put up 37 points (without their top two wideouts) against one of the best defenses in the league and keep them on their heels for 60 minutes is enough of a moral victory walk away happy from this game. I cannot wait until we see the Cowboys again this year, which will be the final game of the season in Philadelphia. That game could possibly have the NFC East on the line.
Other notes from the game: McNabb officially has his mojo back, but I was pissed about the high throw to Westbrook that would have kept the drive alive late in the 4th to win. Oh, and the fumble by Westbrook due to a poor McNabb handoff, also late in the 4th, which could go down as costing them the game. He had two bad plays that really hurt them, but his ability to avoid the Cowboys rush was uncanny. I hope last night was just 1 bad game from Dawkins and not a sign of him aging. Dawkins was late on a lot of plays, but I do have to give him credit for a huge pass breakup on a pass to Martellus Bennett on 3rd down to get the Eagles the ball back for a final 4th quarter drive. Sean Considine needs to go. Why the hell was he even on the field at all this game? Can't we please cut him now? He is worthless.
Here's DeSean's funny football blooper from last night. Fortunately, it didn't cost the Eagles 7 points. Otherwise, I would have to do an "heel turn" on him.
Once is a mistake. Twice is a pattern. This was DeSean Jackson in high school. DeSean, is it that hard to wait until you're two steps into the endzone?
It is my pleasure to finally release a few DeSean Jackson wallpapers that I created. After a legendary debut that will be remembered and appreciated by Eagles fans for years to come, it was about time to open a DeSean Jackson wallpaper section here on the site.
I also put up widescreen versions of these wallpaper since it'll probably be the wallpaper on the laptop for at least the next 6 months. Additionally, I also added DeSean Jackson's Cal wallpaper, which I had stored at my other wallpaper site, Anonymous Junkyard, which you should all check out. Here is a preview of the wallpapers.
This came from a Philadelphia Daily News article whose article title was T.O.: 2008 Cowboys better than Super Bowl Birds. Although that article didn't really back up that headline with anything other than vague references, what I found more interesting was T.O.'s comments on Eagles fans, so I'll give this headline my own twist. Here is what T.O. had to say when asked about the Philadelphia fans:
Honestly, dude, those fans were great. I tell people all the time, even
comparing them to the fans here in Dallas. The situation that happened
there was really unfortunate. I think a lot of fans know what happened.
They know the real deal aside from media sources there. I embraced
those fans there. They were great to me when I was there. I tell a lot
of people I can't get out of my head the times that I was standing on
the sidelines and I've got, however many that stadium holds, and they
are chanting my name. That was a very, very unbelievable feeling. I
enjoyed my time there.
McNabb posted his reaction to the Rams game over at Yardbarker, Checklist: Start fast? Yes. It was just a short and sweet posting thanking his offensive line and defense for dominating the game. The Cowboys are next week and I found this image over there, which I just had to post.
In other Eagles news:
-- Kevin Curtis may be able to return sooner than expected, reports Bleeding Green Nation. We may see him back in action before the October 12th game against the 49ers.
-- Pacman Jones is already running his mouth about the Eagles wideouts. Let's go out an embarrass him next week.
You know the story. The Eagles dominated the Rams for over 500 yards of offense and won 38-3. DeSean Jackson was incredible (107 receiving yards, 96 punt return
yards). That could go down as one of the best rookie debut
performances... ever. The highlight of the game for me (other than all 522 yards of offense and the 90 yard TD reception by Hank Baskett, which supports my position that he's the best #4 receiver in the league) was this hit by Sheldon Brown on Steven Jackson. Steven Jackson: YOU GOT JACKED UP!
